New HR-Themed Credential Harvesting Phishing Attack Uses Legitimate Signature Platform Yousign
A new phishing campaign is exploiting the eSignature platform Yousign.
There have been plenty of phishing attacks that leverage legitimate platforms to help establish credibility with security solutions – including online email services, web hosting, payment processors and more.
This latest attack documented by security researchers at Agari has found a phishing attack that impersonates the victim company’s HR department, notifying the potential victim of the need to sign the new Employee Handbook:

Those that press the “Access Document” button in the email are taken to real online document hosted by eSignature provider Yousign.
The malicious activity is found within the hosted document, where victims are asked to provide their name, email address, and password to their user account.

If you’re in IT or cybersecurity, this doesn’t make any sense.
But to the non-technical user that has not undergone security awareness training, complying with HR’s request may seem harmless. They may not realize how bizarre the nature of the request is and inadvertently give up their email address and password, potentially granting the attacker access to their online email at the very least.
