“Operation Endgame” Ends with the Arrest of 4 Cybercriminal Suspects and 100 Servers
Coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies across nine countries has resulted in a major disruption of a threat group’s malware and ransomware operations.
Operation Endgame has been responsible for the takedown of those behind a massive Emotet cyber attack in 2021. Operation Endgame is a joining of international law enforcement and partners solely focused on finding cybercriminals and bringing them to justice.
The latest takedown involved sweeping 16 locations, 100 servers, 2000 domains, four arrests and hundreds of millions of Euros in estimated damages.
To put the monetary damage in context, Eurojust (the organization behind Operation Endgame) said just one of the suspects arrested had earned $74 million by renting our infrastructure for ransomware attacks.
The arrests and related crackdown demonstrates how small of an organization a cyber gang really needs to be while still turning a profit.
The answer here is to look at the threat actions being taken and placing your defense efforts that will directly mitigate the threat. And in the case of phishing and social engineering attacks, one of the answers is found in new-school security awareness training.
