91% of Organizations are Concerned About Ransomware Attacks in 2022

With ransomware attacks becoming more frequent, evasion getting more sophisticated, and ransoms increasing, new data shows organizations aren’t fighting for staff and budget.

As ransomware attacks now reach downtime costs of over $160 billion, this prevalent attack is on everyone’s minds. New data in SonicWall’s Threat Mindset Survey Report shows that organizations are very aware of the cyber threats that exist (which includes ransomware), but also are not doing enough to properly position themselves to prevent attacks.

According to the report, some of the top attacks organizations are most worried about are:

    • Ransomware (91% of organizations)
    • Financially-motivated attacks (89%)
    • Phishing / Spear Phishing (76%)
    • Encrypted Malware (66%)
    • State Sponsored attacks (43%)

And yet, the report shows that organizations are still having problems getting cybersecurity into a proper state:

    • 46% of organizations stated they have inadequate cybersecurity headcount
    • 41% said their cybersecurity budget is inadequate

While the majority of organizations (78%) said their most pressing issues is keeping up with the changing security landscape, it’s interesting to see that nearly half (48%) cites that training employees – no doubt using Security Awareness Training – remains a challenge. This is a quandary, as just over three-quarters of orgs said they’re concerned about phishing attacks! By using continual online training, organizations can make certain that the traditionally weakest link – their user – is playing a part to make the organization a more secure place.
